New ‘Dirty Dozen’ Pesticide Listing

The Dirty Dozen list is out again for the year.  The list, created to warn consumers of the non-organic produce that contain the heaviest levels of pesticides, places strawberries at the top this year.  The solution for minimizing the amount of pernicious pesticides you put inside your body:   Purchase organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. When organic produce is not an option, be sure to thoroughly wash produce with a DIY PESTICIDE REMOVAL SOLUTION that can remove harmful pesticides.

 


 

Strawberries again top the ‘Dirty Dozen’ list of produce contaminated with pesticides

  • The Environmental Working Group Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce’s annual “Dirty Dozen” list has once again ranked strawberries as No. 1 — the conventionally grown produce with the most pesticide residues.

 

  • EWG’s analysis of tests by the USDA discovered that approximately 70% of samples of 48 types of conventional produce were contaminated with residues of at least one pesticide.

 

Latest Dirty Dozen List for Non-organic Produce with Heavy Pesticides

  • Strawberries
  • Spinach*
  • Nectarines
  • Apples
  • Peaches
  • Celery
  • Grapes
  • Pears
  • Cherries
  • Tomatoes
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Potatoes

 

*Spinach made a leap up the list because samples had an average of twice as much pesticide residue by weight than any other crop. Additionally, 75% of spinach samples had residues of a neurotoxic pesticide banned in Europe for use on food crops.
