Exposure to Carcinogens from Personal Care Products: Survey

The results from a a new survey indicate that on average, U.S. consumers are exposed to two ingredients linked to cancer from their personal care products every day.  (The survey results indicated that the average adult in the U.S. uses 12 different personal care products on a daily basis.) Additional analyses indicated that skin care products like sunscreen, eye cream and cosmetics are the largest sources of chemical exposure for adult consumers in the U.S. Included among the chemicals of concern in personal care products are benzyl alcohol which can cause allergic reactions, and talc, which has been linked to ovarian cancer, as well as phthalates, parabens and PFAS.
