WA State Bans PFAS, Formaldehyde, Lead, Phthalates from Cosmetics

PFAS, lead, phthalates, formaldehyde-releasing agents are among the toxic chemicals banned from cosmetics in Washington state.

In May 2023, the governor of Washington state signed the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act (HB1047). It is the strongest law in the U.S. regulating cosmetics and personal care products. Cosmetics containing most of these toxins will be banned in Washington state by 2025, and those with formaldehyde-releasing agents by 2026.
