FDA Declares GMOs Safe in New Public Education Campaign

The federal government is still working hard to convince the public that their food is safe. In August, 2022 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released an updated “public education” campaign where they reiterated that “bioengineered food (aka, GMO) ingredients are safe for consumers”. The one-sided propaganda appears in a collection of educational materials released as part of a congressionally funded initiative (aka, The FDA “Feed Your Mind” Campaign).  The initiative was first launched in 2020 in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  Additionally, ignoring scientific data demonstrating differently, the EPA wants to assure the public that agricultural pesticides, including the herbicides used with biotech crops (like Round-Up|Glyphosate), do not pose risks to vulnerable populations, including children and pregnant women, when the chemicals are used according to label directions.

The FDA’s new, updated release of “Feed Your Mind” Education Materials on GMOs for Consumers, Health Educators, and Health Care Providers”  includes links to a short video prepared for health educators, where the FDA touts the health safety of GMOs.  The FDA also tries to assure consumers of the safety of GMOs in a video: GMOs, Farm to Table and an infographic: Where Can You Find GMOs?

.

Nowhere in the FDA educational campaign materials do they explain why genetically modified (GMO)| bioengineered foods were not required to undergo rigorous federal safety testing before launching them on an unsuspecting public*.

*In addition to [Unmarked] GMO/bioengineered apples, salmon, zucchini, papaya, potatoes and other whole foods present in U.S. grocery stores, approximately 80% of processed foods in the U.S. contain GMO food in the ingredients (like soybean oil, canola oil and corn oil).
